The Celebrating kamma:
We are a social group found largely in the south Indian states of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. We are also called 'Chowdary' in coastal Andhra Pradesh. In the past, our community lived in the Krishna river valley, where Buddhism was the dominant religion. We are believed to have got the name from the Theravada Buddhist concept of Kamma (in Pali) or Karma (in Sanskrit). We use different titles such as Chowdary, Naidu, Rao and Naicker depending on where we live. In Tamil Nadu and southern Andhra Pradesh, Naidu is the most commonly used title.
